Sicily is covered in prickly pear trees. You see them on the hills, in gardens, on shrub land, just about everywhere! They look very pretty especially when the fruits are ripe and red. In Tuscany they are considered a delicacy and people give them to each other as presents! They were beautifully prepared for breakfast at The Petruso Resort for the guests of our Art Toscana Art Holidays in Italy. The prickly outside had been carefully removed and a lolly stick inserted at the stalk for easy eating. Well apart from the pips, of which there are loads, the flesh is very watery and unremarkable. Our guests at Art Toscana Painting Holidays in Italy agreed with me that we wouldn’t recommend them!
