The one or two week painting and drawing course is suitable for all levels of experience and ability, from absolute beginners to professional artists. The tutors are highly experienced artists and teachers who will support you at a level appropriate to your needs, both within a group setting (maximum of 10) and individually.
This is a unique painting opportunity, firstly to observe and record through drawing and painting the landscape, seascape, and light of Sicily and secondly to experience the rich architectural heritage and the divergent culture that Sicily offers.
The three main painting venues, the Tonnara at Scopello, the salt marshes at Tapani and the historic hilltop town of Erice at Mount Eryx are ideal locations for plein air painting.
You will be able to extend your skills, knowledge and understanding of art in a creative and relaxed atmosphere. Demonstrations are given in watercolour, oil, acrylic, and a wide range of drawing materials. Paintings and studies made ‘plein air’, can be developed further on return to the studio.

– Drawing and sketching principles and methods.
– Colour and colour mixing.
– Composition, balance and tension.
– Space, perspective and layers.
– Atmosphere and expression.
– Chiaroscuro, light and shade.
– Changing scale.

Please note the course timetable will follow the typical day at Art Toscana in Tuscany with morning and afternoon sessions. Wednesday is the free day.
