It took some searching to find the perfect accommodation for our Art Toscana painting course in Venice. It had to be somewhere quiet with easy access to the centre, have comfortable accommodation and friendly staff, and provide a good size studio space. The Hotel Cassiano offered all of these and more.
Tucked away behind Piazza San Barnaba in the Dorsodura area of Venice, The Cassiano is situated on a little canal intermittently arched by pretty bridges, close to the Academia bridge and the Grand Canal, and so quiet that you can almost hear the gondoliers gliding by.
The Hotel is a converted 17th century nunnery and occasionally you may meet a nun at reception who will greet you with a sweet ‘buongiorno.’ The bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms are immaculate, simple, spacious and comfortable and look onto a central courtyard and garden. The large conference hall with vaulted ceiling, provides a spacious, naturally illuminated, well equipped studio space.
