Painting and Drawing in Venice

The one week painting and drawing course is suitable for all levels of experience and ability, from absolute beginners to professional artists. Chris Bell and Tony Phillips are highly experienced artists and teachers who will support you at a level appropriate to your needs, both within a group setting (maximum of 10) and individually.
With its myriad of canals, unique architecture and atmospheric lighting conditions, painting in Venice becomes a magical experience, and without doubt, offers the perfect location for a painting holiday.
The Renaissance was a golden age in the long history of Venetian painting, and the art that came from Venice during that era includes some of the most visually exciting works in the whole of western art. Visits will be made to the Galleria dell’Accademia, the Doges’ Palace and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection .
This is a wonderful painting opportunity, firstly to observe and record through drawing and painting the atmosphere and mood of Venice through plein air work and secondly to gain an insight into the meanings and methods of the major artists, sculptors and architects of Venice.
You will be able to extend your skills, knowledge and understanding of art in a creative and relaxed atmosphere. Demonstrations are given in water colour, oil, acrylic, mixed media and a wide range of drawing materials. Paintings and studies made can be developed further in the studio.
The scale of work ranges from A4 sketchbook studies , A3 size canvases , A2 boards, A1 or largersurfaces. All work can be rolled to take home.
All equipment and drawing and painting materials are provided.

– Observation drawing using line, proportion, tone and perspective.
– Painting principles from the Renaissance period to that of contemporary artists.
– Colour, light and atmosphere.
– Composition and the hidden Geometry in Art.
– Expressive painting techniques and methods
